Default What 'weird' toys does your baby like to play with?

I put my baby down this morning on her play mat and arranged all her 'favourite' toys in front of her and then went into the kitchen to pop some washing on.

when i came back she'd all but wriggled off the mat completely and was busily rustling away with the packet of wipes (you know the kind with thw foil wrapper and the plastic lid).

I thought fine, and watched her play a while, and when I looked up almost half an hour to 45 minutes had gone by. Big Deal, right? The thing is, she'd never played with all of her toys altogether for that long!!! She chewed on that thing more happily than all of the 'chew toys' (as hubby calls them) we'd bought.

I wish we'd have known this sooner, we'd have saved a hell of a lot of money!!!! Also I thought she had a really short attention span. Turns out she just thought all her toys were C**p!!!! lol

So, have you bought anything really expensive, just for your LO to have absolutely NO interest in it?

And what is the weirdest, most mundane thing that has caught your kids attention?

Napkins or paper towels! We discovered it when we were eating out, and he started throwing a fit because he couldn't reach the "good stuff" like salt and pepper, sugar packets, ect. He had no interest in his toys from home at all that day. We gave him a napkin to keep him occupied, and now it's our magic trick even at home. If he needs distracting for anything (this week it's antibiotics! -- yuck) we give him a paper towel. He will scrunch it, unscrunch it, look at it from every angle, lick it on all sides, pass it from one hand to the other, and scream if you take it away from him! Wierd, huh?

LOL, they love non-toys! My son thinks the wipe package is great!

The most mundane thing that kept him busy for a long time??? The thing you put on your cup at Starbucks to keep your hands from getting too hot.. that piece of cardboard.. yea.. he sat and played with it for like 30 minutes. Meanwhile, his store bought toys were often neglected, lol.

My son is 7 months now and has gotten more interested in his store bought toys though.. like his poppin' pals or shape sorter (although mundane non-toys are still of great interest! the defuser I use on my hair is AWESOME to him, lol).
