Farewell songs from father to their son? (Or a parent in general to their child?)?
[Songs should be less than 8 years old. Not too folksy either because they need to appeal to a young audience. Some country = OK. Recent cover songs OK.]
I would like to gather a list of songs about a father (or parent in general) expressing love and/or advice to a son (or child in general) that they're going to be separated from. (Circumstances can vary: a parent or child is moving far away, child is graduating, parent or child is going off to war, etc.)
Would prefer that the song is from the point of the view of the parent, but if any song you're thinking of is just that good, feel free to suggest.
I would like to keep these songs fairly recent (within the last 5-8 years) unless you think an older song is so good that it wouldn't sound outdated today.
Some examples (I know, a few aren't quite exactly what I'm asking for but..):
Phil Collins - You'll Be In My Heart, Father To Son
Andrea Bocelli - The Prayer
Creed - Arms Wide Open
Will Smith - Just The Two Of Us
Brad Paisley - Letter To Me
Staind - Zoe Jane (yes, I know that this was directed towards a daughter; but it should hopefully give you an idea of where I'm headed)
Queen - Father To Son (of course, I'm looking for suggestions of much more recent music)
Any and all genres welcome (but should be appropriate for a wide & diverse audience). Also try to avoid father-daughter "wedding" songs (not the direction I'm looking for).
Many thanks, ahead of time.
Also try to use this following song as your guide:
Marc Broussard - Gavin's Song

It is an ALMOST PERFECT song for what I'm trying to convey (except for the mom still being in the picture).
